Fresh flowers bring such joy, and can last quite a while if given proper care once in your home:
Trim the stems: Within the first 24 hours of bringing your bouquet home, give each stem a fresh cut—about 1 inch at a slight angle. This helps the flowers take up water more efficiently.
Fresh water: Place your flowers in a clean vase with fresh, room-temperature water. Refresh the water every 1–2 days to keep your blooms hydrated and happy. bonus tip - add a splash of hydrogen peroxide in the water to keep bacteria levels down and extend the vase life even more!
Location matters: Keep your bouquet in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and drafts. This helps the flowers last longer and prevents premature wilting.
Ongoing care: Every few days, re-cut the stems and remove any wilting or dead flowers to maintain the health and beauty of the arrangement.
With these simple steps, your flowers can stay vibrant and beautiful for as long as possible. Enjoy every bloom!

When your rooted dahlia cuttings arrive, unpack them right away and inspect for any issues. Gently water them and place them in a cool, frost-free space to let them acclimate to their new home.
Unlike tubers, these cuttings are actively growing plants, so they’ll need consistent moisture and full spectrum light. Plan to pot them up using 4" pots, giving the roots room to develop. Water thoroughly after potting, but avoid soggy conditions. Ideal watering: one deep watering per day, or two lighter waterings/mistings per day. Once the plants are more established, daily watering is usually enough—adjust if you’re dealing with extra heat or humidity.
To overwinter, keep your potted cuttings in a bright greenhouse or grow room with good air circulation and pot up when necessary. Watch for pests like aphids or spider mites, which can be more active indoors and treat accordingly to avoid growing populations.
Come spring, once all danger of frost has passed, you can transplant these overwintered dahlias into the ground or larger containers for the growing season.
